Opcon Meanings:

Opcon 5 (Hurricane Season):
This means that the hurricane season is  upon us and all personnel should be vigilant as to the potential that a hurricane could threaten our area at anytime.
Opcon 4 (Notification):
 Upon notification from the Beaufort County Emergency Management Department of a hurricane that may affect the operational area of Beaufort County, the District’s internal readiness status procedures will be implemented.
Opcon 3 (Standby):
During this condition all personnel will be notified by pager and/or phone to prepare to come to work at a moments notice. 
Opcon 2 (Full Alert):
At this condition, personnel will be called into work and report to their assigned duty station and be ready to implement the evacuation order. 
Opcon 1 (Evacuation):
Once notified by the proper authority, evacuation procedures will begin.

  • DEVELOP A FAMILY PLAN - Your family's plan should be based on your vulnerability to the Hurricane Hazards. You should keep a written plan and share your plan with other friends or family.
  • CREATE A DISASTER SUPPLY KIT - There are certain items you need to have regardless of where you ride out a hurricane. The disaster supply kit is a useful tool when you evacuate as well as making you as safe as possible in your home.
  • SECURE YOUR HOME - There are things that you can do to make your home more secure and able to withstand stronger storms.
